Stephen King- The dead zone, Misery, Pet cemetery,The Shining and The Green Mile (monthly serial when released at 1st) most of his early work really.. some of his new stuff is not too great..

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams

My girlfriend said to add Antoine de Saint-Exupéry - The Little Prince - is her all time favourite book. She also likes Harry Potter but I won't go there :orglaugh sorry Harry Potter fans:winkwink /images/_common/forums/emoticons/' }

Stephen King and now Dan Brown too have written have been turned into decent movies, they are no substitute for reading the whole story in the book :twocents

Agree read The Dead Zone for example the movie is good but the book takes it to a new level that the movie does not show and the movie is one of my all time favourites. The problem with Stephen king books is you would need to make each movie 3-5 hours long to get everything he wants, I.T is a good example of a long Stephen King movie..

" At Swim, Two Boys " by Jamie O'Neill, has to be my favorite novel, for many different reasons.

I'm shocked to see that it was actually made into a movie. I hadn't heard, until I Googled looking for the author's name./images/_common/forums/emoticons/' }

Ah, excellent topic! I'm a writer so I read a lot. Of course I like my own books particularly--but none of my fiction has been published (yet--I hope) except one rather offbeat short story, sort of literary porn with no actual sex in it. But as a reader I like a lot of the classics mentioned already, plus the Lord of the Rings which I suppose is becoming a classic in its own way. The author I can never read too many times, any novel of hers, is Jane Austen. But I think maybe my favorite single novel is George Eliot's Middlemarch. I like her Felix the Radical too. Loved Anna Karenina and Dead Souls, for the Russian lit. fans who seem to be numerous out there. I read Japanese novels a lot, but some of my favorites haven't been translated yet, alas. OF those that have, Tanizaki's The Makioka Sisters is maybe the top of my list. I love the Quebecois gay writer Michel Tremblay. This summer I read Dickens's Dombey and Son, not one of the more well known ones, and found it quite astonishingly good, though it takes a while to get into. My favorite writer in English that nobody ever heard of is the Scots satirist John Galt, contemporary with Sir Walter Scott more or less. The Provost is one of the most hilarious books I ever read, mainly because its written in a dead serious way by a narrator who takes himself far too seriously to get that the joke is usually on him. Another hilarious novel is Flann O'Brien's The Poor Mouth (An beall bocht, which I may have spelt wrong since I only read the English version, not being able to read Irish.) OK, I'd better stop now. - Richard/images/_common/forums/emoticons/' }

I am also glad there are still readers out there. However, nothing beats a good trashy novel. Jackie Collins, Harold Robbins, Erica Jong. I also enjoy history. James Michener, Herman Wouk, John Jakes. But, I also enjoy Stephen King,& Anne Rice./images/_common/forums/emoticons/' }

Well, not to sound like a geek, but I like anything FANTASY. My favorite fantasy author is Robert Jordan. I love his Wheel of Time series. He died and an up and coming fantasy author is finishing the series, but I love the world he created. I also love John Grisham, as I am a big fan of legal dramas. I know it's not Shakespeare....but I prefer lighter reading i guess. LOL/images/_common/forums/emoticons/' }
